Berkeley Marina

A few shots from the Berkeley Marina on a nice day…although it seems like summer isn’t coming this year. I started off heading down the pier, but eventually got distracted by some heavy machinery (which seems to be a trend for me). The first two shots are taken from under the pier and I must give credit to Patrick Smith for the location.

The Digidesign D-Control

I took some closeups of the Digidesign D-Control at Ex’pression College while my friend was having a session. I must say…It’s quite an amazing piece of hardware and makes for a great subject to photograph.

Briones Reservoir Close Ups

I went to Briones Reservoir to take photographs of the water and other various landscapes, however the weather was pretty bad. I ended up getting a few close up shots with my 70-300mm lense. I’m still trying to get used to the lense, and how it handles depth of field.

San Francisco Bay Storm

Just before some heavy rain, around an hour before sunset the sun was making some nice rays on the bay. I got a few good shots before my hands were numb and I have to leave, (There was a lot of waiting for the clouds and sun). The color correction on this set is much more harsh than my typical settings, but I like the contrast created when the levels were crushed a bit. The last shot is a panoramic stitched together with 11 frames, see larger size here.

Port of Oakland Close Ups

While trying to find a way to get near the Oakland side of the Bay Bridge, and I ended up in the Port of Oakland. I plan on going back in the summer, as it’s a great place to take shots of the landscape if it’s clear out. Unfortunately, it was too gray out for any good landscape shots when I was taking this set.

Kiker Pass Rolling Hills

This is a set of photos taken from Kiker Pass, which goes over the hills connecting Concord and Bay Point. It’s been raining for the past week and today was the first clear day, so the hills were looking good. A few of the shots have a Windows XP-ish background vibe, (for the who remember their grass background).

Fire Hydrant Flood

I was going to meet a friend to take some photographs in Emeryville and within a few seconds of parking my car, a tractor hit a fire hydrant. I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots before the fire department came and shut off the hydrant.

Industrial Night Photographs

This is a set of photos taken in and around Concord/Vallejo CA of some various factories, warehouses, and refineries. I wanted to take some closer shots, but these places are obviously not open for the public to walk through. It was also my first time with my 70-300mm lens, which was an interested change from the 24-120mm wide angel lens I’ve been using for the past few years.

Emeryville / San Francisco Bay Photographs

This set was taken from the end of Powell St. in Emeryville during sunset. A few days before there was an oil spill in the bay and you can see the boom on the water in the first shot. It made for some nice photos, since half of the water was choppy while the other half was extremely smooth and glassy.

Arnold CA Trip

I took a trip with my friend Ian Garrow this weekend to take some photographs at his cabin. It started out a little rocky when I took a set of 25 photos for a panoramic and then realized that my white balance had somehow been changed. Unfortunately the set was neon blue and beyond color correction, but on the drive back home to the Bay Area there were some strange skies that made for interesting photos. Here’s my favorites of the bunch, the last one is a panoramic shot I stitched together.

Photoshop Landscape Composite

These are a bunch of photographs (not taken by me), composited together into a landscape. Unfortunately I was not recording my screen while working on this project, which would have made for a much more interesting presentation. Anyways, here’s the incremental saves from start to finish. I used about 20 or so photos along and a touch of painting with my tablet. It’s slightly rough, but I decided it was never going to get finished and it was time to post it. Here’s the large version of the final outcome.

Earth Hour 2009 – Driving Home (Part II)

After shooting a set of rather unimpressive photos of San Francisco during Earth Hour 2009, I thought I would take a set of photos while driving home. (No I wasn’t actually looking through the viewfinder while driving) When I got home I was overwhlemed with a couple hundred photos, mostly garbadge, but above are the few that I liked.

Earth Hour 2009 – San Francisco (Part I)

This is a set of photos I took during earth hour 2009. They were taken from the Berkeley hills between 8:30pm-9pm in roughly 4 minute increments. You can see the lights on the spans of the Bay Bridge turning off in the first few photos. Overall though I was somewhat unimpressed…The photos I saw online of other big cities during earth hour seemed to have more noticeable results.

HDR Test (Parking Garage)

I’ve always had interest in HDR photography, this was my first test set I shot to play around with. I put up the whole set just for some reference. The first photo in the gallery in the final result, the 2nd is version with a tilt shift type effect applied. The rest of the images are the set I shot.

Since it’s hard to find a set of exposures in RAW format I’ve attached my set for those trying to learn.

Angel Island Fire (San Francisco Bay)

Taken from the Berkeley hills around 10:45pm… This is Angel Island which is located in the middle of the San Francisco bay. The Golden Gate bridge is located towards the left, behind the island (You can see it in one of the photos). In the foreground is the Berkeley Marina. I didn’t notice when taking the photos, but in a few of the long exposures you can see various aircraft flying over the island.
