It seems that many users want to turn off voicemail but cannot. Skype is great (although expensive for international calls compared to services like Pingo) and for me, the benefit of a Skype number in Brazil is made useless because all calls forwarded to my USA cell get answered by Skype voicemail. I want to turn off the voicemail NOW. What is the solution? Class action? Skype, please develop a solution fast! (Sounds like wishful thinking…..)

Thanks for the above posts. Now I just nee to remember to disable my Skype number from Google Voice every time I leave home or work or my friends house or Starbucks….

None of the workarounds I’ve seen posted on the net work 100% reliably. The only thing to do is disable skypein line when you’re away from the computer. Google voice mobile interface makes it easy to enable&disable phones.

Agreed…my solution is also to leave my SkypeIn line disabled in Google Voice, unless I'm expecting a call I want to take on Skype. It's a shame that Skype can't fix this issue…it's been years with no action taken on their part. If they want to keep up with modern day phone systems and cell phones they'll need to correct this.

I think there's even better solution.
Enable only Call Presentation in GV and disable Call Screening.
This way it doesn't matter if one of your phones are not responding and if anything goes wrong it will go only to GV Voicemail.
Downside is – you'll be getting all calls that u answer from your cell(or other phones) as a missed call in skype and will be 5 sec voicemail with skype voicemail greeting, but you can easily ignore them, becuse u r covered with GV.

I was having the same issues, but I found a solution here:

Try this workaround:

Disable voicemail and call forwarding from within the Skype software (if you run Skype on multiple computers, be sure to disable it in each). Then configure Skype call forwarding on the Skype website to forward to your Google Voice number.

Even with Skype call forwarding enabled, you can still answer GV calls while Skype application is running on your computer. And if you don't have Skype running, they'll forward to Google Voice without a problem.

While not the most robust solution (there are a couple extra rings if Skype is running on your computer) it seems do the job.

I have also seen no progress made in regards to this issue, and I feel it puts your GV calls at risk for not being received. My end solution is, I now only enable my Skype number in Google Voice when I want to use it for a call. It's useful to have when I'm making long business calls, but overall I'd have to say Skype's phone related services are unacceptable.

Yep, this is extremely annoying. What's even worse it's been a bug for over 2 years. See the bug report here -- https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SCW-449 Clearly the claims that they're "working on it" is BS. Personally I've move away from Skype as this was just one of many problems I've run into with them that were completely ignored. They're a dying company and i can certainly understand why after my experiences with them.
